Behavioral Health RN — Night Shift | Arlington, VA

13-Week Contract | 3x12 Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Start Date: October 12, 2026

This inpatient behavioral health unit cares for adult and geriatric patients across a broad range of psychiatric diagnoses, including anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, psychotic and schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, substance use, suicidal ideation, personality disorders, and trauma-related conditions. The unit operates as a locked inpatient environment with a structured safety protocol, including Q15-minute patient rounding and established seclusion and physical hold procedures.

Clinical Scope & Responsibilities

• Crisis intervention, de-escalation, and behavior management
• Medication administration including antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, antianxiety agents, antidepressants, and sedatives
• Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) support
• Foley catheter and NG tube insertion and management
• IV insertion and maintenance; blood glucose monitoring
• Seclusion protocols and voluntary/involuntary commitment processes
• Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including social services, pharmacy, respiratory, and rapid response

Schedule & Coverage

• 3x12-hour night shifts; weekend coverage required (approximately 8 weekend shifts per contract)
• 24-hour orientation; up to 7 hours of non-billable online modules required
• No on-call requirement for this unit

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of behavioral health experience; charge experience preferred
• Active Virginia RN license — must be in hand at time of submission (no pending licenses accepted)
• Certifications: BLS and MOAB
• Electronic health record training will be completed during orientation based on recent experience level
• Flu vaccine required (October 1 – March 31); COVID-19 vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Smoke/nicotine-free facility
