Registered Nurse

Med-Surg & Cardiac Observation | 13-Week Travel Contract | Nights | Parkersburg, WV

This fast-paced Med-Surg and Cardiac Observation unit manages a high volume of admissions and discharges daily. The patient population includes pre/post cardiac catheterization, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, arrhythmias, pacemaker patients, and general Med-Surg diagnoses.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Every-other-weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday for night shift)
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• All time-off requests must be submitted upfront and included in the contract

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) — both required

Clinical Skills & Experience

• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone required
• TR Band experience is a strong plus
• RNs administer set-rate drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Bumex, Lasix); no titration required
• BiPAP and CPAP management for supportive therapy
• Duties include EKGs, bladder scans, fingerstick blood glucose monitoring, ADLs, and vital signs

Unit Structure

• Charge Nurse present on the unit 24/7; night charge always carries a patient assignment
• Nurse aides on the unit; telemetry monitor technicians support from a separate floor
• Travelers float first and may be assigned to other units within their documented skillset

Orientation

• Day 1: Computer training | Day 2: Preceptored floor orientation | Day 3: Independent practice

Dress Code

• Royal blue scrubs; scrub jackets only (no hoodies or sweatshirts)
