Medical-Surgical RN — Night Shift | Wheeling, WV

13-Week Contract | 36 Guaranteed Hours/Week

This busy Medical-Surgical unit manages a diverse adult population across a fully private-room floor. Travelers with experience in post-surgical care and dialysis patients will feel right at home.

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

• Post-operative orthopedic, general surgery, and basic neurosurgical patients (laminectomies, discectomies, spinal fusions, cholecystectomies, mastectomies, sleeve gastrectomies)
• Medical diagnoses including COPD, ia, cellulitis, and chest pain
• Hemodialysis on the unit; peritoneal dialysis experience is strongly preferred
• Drips include heparin, PCAs (morphine sulfate), and occasional Ativan infusions — no cardiac drips or continuous insulin
• Respiratory support: BiPAP (intermittent), CPAP, and high-flow therapy available; RT on-site 24/7
• Remote telemetry monitoring as needed; strip reading not required but welcomed if experienced

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour nights: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Every-other-weekend rotation (3 weekends per 6-week schedule), Fri/Sat nights
• Holiday rotation applies
• Cancellation policy: 2 shifts per 13-week contract

Float Potential

May float to other Medical-Surgical or Med-Surg/Oncology units; if floated to IMC, assigned Med-Surg overflow only — no drips in float assignments.

Support Structure

• Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7
• IV team handles all IV starts; RNs assess sites only
• Pharmacy on-site 24/7

Requirements

• Active RN license
• BLS (AHA) — required
• NIHSS — required
• ACLS — a plus
• Dialysis experience highly preferred
• 50-mile radius rule applies; valid driver's license copy required at submission

Scrubs: Navy blue top, bottom, and jacket (no hoodies)
