Respiratory Therapist — 13-Week Contract
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour rotating days and nights (0645–1915 or 1845–0715)
- Every other weekend as scheduled
- Set schedules planned 4 weeks in advance
- Work Christmas and New Year's only if scheduled
- No call or standby requirement
Required Credentials
- Current RRT or CRT (NBRC)
- ACLS, BLS (AHA), PALS, NRP, and STABLE certification
- ER, ICU, and inpatient adult experience required
- Pediatric experience preferred; facility willing to train
Clinical Scope
You'll manage breathing treatments, ventilators, and ABG draws across all inpatient units and the ED. Duties include performing outpatient and inpatient EKGs, assisting with intubations, and may include initiating CPAP support for infants. The facility serves primarily adult patients with dedicated pediatric inpatient and family birthing (non-surgical) units. Expect 40–70 treatments per shift with up to 8–9 ventilators in the ICU at any time.
Work Environment
- Float within the facility only; no critical care transport outside
- Pulmonologists, hospitalist, and physician residents on staff for support
- Lead therapist or supervisor available for questions
- Professional scrubs (any color); clean appearance required; no long nails
Orientation
- General orientation on day one; classroom modules and classes on day two
- Typically 3 days of preceptor shadowing before independent assignment
- All travelers begin on inpatient units before expanding to other areas
Other Details
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Valid driver's license required; must live within 100-mile radius
- No critical care transport responsibilities outside the facility
