Clinical Lab Scientist – Night Shift
Position Overview
The facility is seeking a Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) for night shift coverage in its acute care laboratory. You'll work independently as the sole CLS on duty, performing a full spectrum of generalist lab duties in a fast-paced, community hospital setting.
Shift & Schedule
- Night shift: 4 x 10-hour (20:00–06:00)
- Contract duration: 13 weeks
- Start date: October 19, 2026
- Weekend coverage required
- Commitment: Must work 3 of 5 holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- Floating: May be required to float to nearby sister facilities
Requirements
- License & Certification: California state CLS license; ASCP or ASCP-MLS required
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of clinical lab experience; 2+ years preferred
- Independent practice: Ability to work autonomously with limited microbiology oversight
Core Responsibilities
- Blood banking (Type & Screen, crossmatching, DAT, antibody identification)
- Urinalysis, body fluids, and microscopy
- Hematology, chemistry, immunoassay, and therapeutic drug monitoring
- PCR testing (flu, MRSA, COVID, Group B Strep, Staph aureus)
- Gram staining and culture screening
- Quality assurance and instrument operation
- Specimen accessioning, preparation, and proper handling
