Psychiatric Nurse – Adult Inpatient Unit | Kansas City, MO

Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | 4 x 12-hour shifts

Contract Duration: 13 weeks | Guaranteed Hours: 48/week

Start Date: September 28, 2026

This position is on an adult inpatient psychiatric unit in Kansas City, MO. The unit manages patients presenting with a range of psychiatric disorders, substance use issues, and behavioral health challenges, requiring skilled nursing assessment and de-escalation expertise.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Comprehensive mental health assessment, including patient history, behavioral observation, and use of diagnostic tools
• Development and implementation of individualized care plans with measurable goals and outcome evaluation
• Administration of psychotropic medications with ongoing monitoring for side effects and adverse reactions
• Crisis intervention for patients experiencing suicidal ideation, aggression, or acute psychiatric episodes
• Monitoring of vital signs, mental status changes, and psychological symptoms throughout the shift
• Therapeutic communication to build trust, rapport, and patient engagement

Schedule & Float:

• Three 12-hour shifts per day, seven days a week coverage required
• Days off are not guaranteed unless specified in the contract
• Float/charge-level assignments based on greatest unit need

Certifications Required:

• BLS (current)
• CPI (active Blue Card — required at time of submission)

Dress Code:

• Nurses: blue scrubs

Patient Experience:

• Staff are expected to follow ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Always, Respect) and AIDET communication standards in all patient interactions.
