Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Night Shift | Hermitage, TN
13-Week Contract | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
This PCU assignment places you in a fast-paced, team-oriented step-down environment managing intermediate-to-high-acuity patients. The unit supports a collaborative care model with dedicated tech support and a culture that consistently brings travelers back for extensions.
Shift & Schedule
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours guaranteed)
- Every-other-weekend requirement
- Self-scheduling with 4-week schedule blocks
Clinical Scope
The unit cares for cardiac, stroke, and post-cardiac cath patients, as well as those requiring peritoneal dialysis, wound vac management, and complex drip therapy. Procedures performed on the unit include thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, dobhoff/NG tube insertions, central line dressing changes, and wound vac troubleshooting.
Required Skills & Certifications
- BLS and ACLS (required)
- EKG rhythm interpretation
- Experience managing cardiac, heparin, and insulin drips
- Proficiency with BiPAP, high-flow O2, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
- Stroke and post-cardiac cath care experience
- Tube feeding and NG/dobhoff tube experience
- Peripheral IV skills
- Peritoneal dialysis experience preferred
Floating
Candidates may float between PCU units or to med-surg floors as needed.
Dress Code
Black scrubs required.
