Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel RN
Hermitage, TN | Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 13-Week Contract
This PCU assignment offers a high level of clinical engagement with a collaborative, team-oriented culture. The unit manages step-down acuity patients, including stroke and post-cardiac cath care, and is supported by dedicated patient care technicians.
Clinical Scope & Procedures
- Cardiac, heparin, and insulin drip management
- EKG rhythm interpretation
- BiPAP and high-flow oxygen therapy
- Peritoneal dialysis (preferred experience)
- Thoracentesis, paracentesis, and chest tube insertion assistance
- Dobhoff/NG tube insertion and tube feeding management
- Central line dressing changes and wound vac troubleshooting
- Peripheral IV placement
Schedule & Float
- Three 12-hour night shifts per week (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Every-other-weekend requirement
- Self-scheduling with 4-week schedule blocks
- Float possible between PCU units or to med-surg floors
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
Certifications Required
- BLS
- ACLS

- Black scrubs
What to Expect
The unit follows AIDET communication standards and structured rounding protocols. Techs are available to support patient care, and the team is known for strong collaboration — most travelers choose to extend after their initial contract.
Ideal Candidate
Strong critical thinking skills, comfort managing complex drips and advanced respiratory support, and experience with the procedures listed above. Peritoneal dialysis experience is a plus.
