Progressive Care Unit — Travel RN | Chattanooga, TN
Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 13-Week Contract
This intermediate-care unit manages a high-acuity mix of cardiac, medical, and surgical patients requiring close monitoring and complex nursing interventions. The unit carries a heavy cardiac focus, including post-cardiac catheterization patients, CV surgery step-downs, and a broad range of conditions such as heart failure, atrial fibrillation, myocardial infarction, stroke, sepsis, DKA, acute respiratory failure, GI bleed, and post-operative day-one CABG and aortic valve surgery patients.
Clinical Expectations
- Q6H head-to-toe assessments, fully charted
- Vasoactive and cardiac drips: Dopamine, Dobutrex, Nitro, Heparin, Cardizem, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Amiodarone, Cardene, Labetalol, Insulin, and Precedex titration
- Advanced skills required: IV insertion, chest tube management, CVC management, tracheostomy care, DHT/NG tube insertion and management, wound vac management, Foley placement, EKGs, DKA management, early patient mobility
Schedule & Float
- Night shift | 36-hour guarantee | Block scheduling available
- 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule; self-scheduling with balanced staffing
- Travel RNs float first, rotating by oldest float date
Requirements
- Active RN license
- BLS and ACLS required
- Cardiac/telemetry experience required; PCU and/or critical care experience strongly preferred
Dress Code: Navy scrubs
PCTs are available on both shifts to support patient care. Experienced RNs, including staff with ICU backgrounds, are present on all shifts.
