Surgical Trauma ICU (STICU) — Registered Nurse
Asheville, NC | Night Shift (18:45–07:15) | 13-Week Contract
This STICU position places you in a high-acuity surgical and trauma intensive care unit managing complex patients across a broad spectrum of critical illness and injury. The unit operates with strong nurse-to-patient ratios and a well-structured support team, including supervisors and patient care technicians on every shift.
Shift & Schedule
- Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- 6-week scheduling cycle with modified self-scheduling
- 6 weekend shifts required per scheduling cycle
Clinical Scope
The unit manages high-acuity surgical and trauma patients requiring advanced critical care interventions, including:
- Intubation/extubation, bronchoscopy, endoscopy
- Chest tube, central line, A-line, and Foley placement
- EVD/bolt placement and monitoring
- CRRT/hemodialysis
- Proning, TPA administration, hypertonic medication management
- Tracheostomy placement, wound vac management, irrigation and debridement, and minor surgical procedures
Float Requirements
Travelers float before core staff. Floating may occur to other ICU environments or step-down units.
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (North Carolina or compact)
- Active BLS and ACLS certifications
- Minimum experience in Trauma ICU (Level I or II) and Surgical ICU — LTAC experience not applicable
- Strong team collaboration, adaptability, and positive clinical attitude
Dress Code
All-navy or all-white scrubs; navy bottoms with white top also accepted.
