Neuro Stepdown / Intermediate Care RN — Night Shift | Charlotte, NC
This 20-week travel contract places you on a busy neurological intermediate care unit managing a sub-specialized neuro population alongside general medical intermediate patients. Night shift runs 12 hours (18:45–07:15), with 36- or 48-hour week options available.
Unit Scope & Patient Population
- Adult and geriatric patients with neurological and medical intermediate acuity
- Diagnoses include CVA, TBI, intracranial bleeds, aneurysm repair, craniotomy, post-TPA care, pre/post neurosurgery, lumbar drains, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, and substance withdrawal
- Robust interdisciplinary support including respiratory, pharmacy, rapid response, and PT
Required Skills
- Titration of vasoactive drips (including levopamine) and cardiac drips; IV insulin protocols
- Cardiac monitoring: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry
- Central line, PICC, and peripheral IV care; blood product administration; heparin protocols; PCA
- Respiratory: tracheostomy care, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, ABG interpretation, vent management
- Continuous bladder irrigation, pre/post hemodialysis management, feeding tube care, wound care/wound vac, surgical drains, TR Band
Certifications Required
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Preferred: CCRN, TNCC, CPI
Scheduling Details
- Minimum 3 weekend shifts per six-week period; no call requirement
- Float may include other intermediate and critical care areas
- Orientation: 32 hours total
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in neuro stepdown or comparable IMC/PCU setting
- Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
- Scrubs: navy blue and white combination
- Flu vaccine required; COVID-19 vaccine not required
Neuro experience is strongly preferred — please be prepared to discuss your neurological nursing background during the required manager interview.
