Utilization Review Nurse — Remote Contract | Torrance, CA
Day Shift | 13-Week Contract
This is a 100% remote Utilization Review (UR) Nurse position supporting a centralized UM team across multiple inpatient, Extended Hospital Outpatient, and Observation service lines. All work is performed in Pacific Standard Time.
Shift & Schedule
- Day shift, 5×8 hours (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM PST)
- Every third weekend rotation required for the duration of the contract
- Holiday commitment required: must work 3 of 5 designated holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- All requested time off must be submitted upfront at the time of offer
Clinical Scope
- Perform concurrent reviews, continued stay reviews, pre-certification, and retrospective reviews across adult and pediatric populations with varied acute and chronic diagnoses
- Apply InterQual criteria to determine medical necessity
- Support Medicare-specific UM processes including compliance documentation (ABNs, HINNs, MCSNs, CC44s)
- Coordinate across inpatient, OBS, and outpatient service lines
Required Qualifications
- Active California RN license (required)
- Minimum 3 years of acute hospital Care Manager/UM experience — hospital-based setting only (health plan or medical group experience does not qualify)
- InterQual proficiency — hard stop
- Medicare regulations knowledge — hard stop
- Recent clinical documentation system experience within the last 6–12 months — hard stop
- Experience with HMOs, IPAs, Medi-Cal, and CMS guidelines preferred
- Compact license must be in hand at submission
- Two professional references required, covering at least 1 year within the past 3 years
