Unit Overview
Join a post-surgical care unit focused on general surgery patients in the immediate post-operative period. The unit provides a collaborative environment with strong communication between nursing staff and surgical providers, including residents who support coverage 24/7. You'll care for hemodynamically stable patients who do not require mechanical ventilation.
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
- Common diagnoses: bowel obstruction, wound infection, gastrointestinal cancers, morbid obesity
- Patient ages: 18–60+
- You'll work alongside RNs, LPNs, Patient Care Technicians, and Nurse Interns; RNs carry full responsibility for their patient teams
Float Expectations
You may be asked to float to other units or facilities within a 35-mile radius based on staffing needs, patient census, and acuity. You'll always receive notification before your scheduled shift if a float assignment is required.
Required Credentials
- Current RN license (verified via Nursys)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Successful completion of a proctored rhythm test
Additional Requirements
Standard onboarding includes background check, drug screening, immunization verification (MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Influenza, TB screening), and clinical skills assessment.
