ICU Travel Nurse — Night Shift | Oakland, MD

13-Week Contract | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 36 Hours Guaranteed/Week

This ICU position is based in a rural acute care setting managing a diverse, high-acuity patient population. The unit operates without a dedicated PCU or intermediate care level, meaning ICU nurses manage the full spectrum of critical and complex patients.

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

  • Respiratory failure, atrial fibrillation with RVR, detox, and behavioral health cases including suicide precautions
  • MedSurg overflow as needed; occasional arterial lines; pediatric patients accepted
  • RNs titrate drips including propofol, Precedex, Cardizem, levophed, and insulin
  • RNs monitor and read cardiac strips house-wide

Schedule & Requirements

  • 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights)
  • Holidays rotate with permanent staff
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Block scheduling considered; extra shifts may be available

Floating

Nurses may float to MedSurg when census is low; full patient assignment is not typically expected when floating.

Support Staff

  • House supervisor on-site; no charge nurse taking a patient assignment
  • Clinical assistant available most days around the clock
  • Respiratory therapy in-house 24/7

Required Certifications

BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), NIHSS (AHA)

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum ICU experience required
  • Valid driver's license required at submission
  • 50-mile radius rule applies
  • Scrubs: any color except camouflage or orange

Orientation is 3–5 days on the unit, including manager introduction, policy review, and department-coordinated training.
