Cardiac Progressive Care Unit – Night Shift

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced cardiac nurse for a 13-week assignment in a high-acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This role focuses on managing complex cardiac patients requiring continuous monitoring and procedural support.

Shift & Schedule

  • 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • Navy blue scrubs
  • Available start dates: Every Monday
  • Contract duration: 13 weeks

Clinical Requirements

You must have a minimum of 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience and demonstrate independent competency in:

  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia identification
  • Management of common cardiac drips (insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, lasix, nitroglycerin)
  • Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
  • Chest tube management
  • Groin site care following cardiac catheterization procedures

Dysrhythmia Competency Exam

You will be required to pass a proctored, paper-based dysrhythmia exam on your first attempt. The exam uses calipers for rhythm interpretation. No tech assistance is permitted, and no remediation opportunities are available. Study guides will be provided in advance.

Patient Population & Procedures

Experience & Training

Heart transplant and LVAD experience are preferred; training is available if needed. You will not care for ventilator patients. Float assignments to similar cardiac/PCU units may occur.

Travel Requirements

You must reside outside a 50-mile radius. Local travelers are not accepted.
