Behavioral Health RN – Night Shift
Position Overview
The facility seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for its behavioral health unit. You'll work nights (11 PM – 7 AM), Monday through Friday, on a 13-week contract. This is a full-time role with no on-call requirements.
Unit & Patient Population
You'll care for acute psychiatric patients experiencing major mental illness, including those with chronic behavioral challenges such as aggression, mania, and self-harm. Patient acuity and complexity require strong de-escalation skills and the ability to work safely with patients across all age groups—adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Scheduling & Floating
- 40 hours/week on nights
- Every other weekend (required)
- Float assignments across the facility's Des Moines campuses to similar behavioral health units
- No call responsibility
Requirements
- License: Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
- Experience: 24 months of current inpatient psychiatric/behavioral health experience required; 15+ months minimum for first-time travelers
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA) – required
- De-escalation training (MOAB, MAB, or CPI) – highly preferred; can be obtained during onboarding
- Valid driver's license required
- Professional reference from supervisor/manager within the past 24 months
Scrubs
Navy blue, solids.
Holiday Commitment
You'll be required to work 1–2 of the three winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) unless the unit is closed.
Orientation
October 12 or October 26, 2026. Earlier start dates are prioritized.
