Histotechnologist – Night Shift
Position Overview
The facility's anatomical pathology laboratory is seeking an experienced Histotechnologist for night shift work. You'll process routine hospital specimens and support the diagnostic mission of the pathology department.
Shift & Schedule
- Shift: Sunday–Thursday, 4:00 PM–12:30 AM (5 shifts, 8 hours each)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years histology experience with hospital-based grossing experience (required)
- California state license preferred; pending license accepted
- ASCP-HT certification and Associate's Degree in Science
- RTO requests limited to 7 days maximum
Core Responsibilities
- Gross, process, embed, and section routine anatomical pathology specimens
- Perform manual and automated microtomy on tissue types (skin, GI, fatty tissue, decalcified, frozen)
- Execute H&E, special stains (PAS, Giemsa), and automated immunohistochemistry (IHC)
- Prepare cytology specimens: thin prep, cell block, cytospin
- Identify and manage processing artifacts
- Collaborate with phlebotomy and radiology teams
Key Details
- Must commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- May be required to float to nearby sister facilities
- All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront; post-offer requests may not be granted
- Two professional references required (covering 1 year within last 3 years)
