PCU / Stepdown
Neuro Stepdown / Intermediate Care RN — Night Shift | Charlotte, NC
This 19-week travel contract places you on a specialized neurological intermediate care unit managing adult and geriatric patients with complex neuro and medical-intermediate needs. The unit runs 12-hour nights (18:45–07:15).
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
The unit focuses on intermediate-acuity neurological and medical patients, including those with CVA, craniotomy, traumatic brain injury, intracranial bleeds, aneurysm repair, spinal cord injury, seizure disorders, lumbar drains, post-TPA care, pre/post neurosurgery, and substance withdrawal. You'll also manage medical-intermediate patients requiring advanced monitoring and intervention.
Required Skills
- Titration of vasoactive drips, including levophed (LEVO), cardiac drips, and insulin drips
- Telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management
- Central line, PICC, and peripheral IV care; blood product administration
- BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, ventilated patient management, chest tube management, ABG interpretation
- Heparin and thrombolytic protocols; PCA management
- Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), pre/post hemodialysis management
- Feeding tube care, surgical drains, wound care/wound vac
- TR Band
Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of neuro stepdown or PCU/IMC/DOU experience
- Prior travel experience required — first-time travelers not accepted
- Neuro experience strongly preferred; limited neuro background must be disclosed at submission
Scheduling Details
- 36–48-hour weeks available; contracts accepted through February 27, 2027
- Minimum 3 weekend shifts per six-week period
- Float to other intermediate and critical care areas as needed
- No on-call requirement
- RTO must be pre-approved; no RTO requests after booking
Orientation: 32 hours (8-hour online class + two on-unit shifts)
Scrubs: Navy blue and white combination
