Neuro Stepdown RN – Night Shift

Shift & Schedule

  • 4 x 12-hour nights: 18:45–07:15
  • 13-week contract
  • Minimum 3 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
  • No call requirement
  • Float requirement to other intermediate care areas and critical care units as needed

About the Unit

The facility's intermediate care unit specializes in neurological and medical intermediate patients. You'll care for post-neurosurgical cases, stroke patients, intracranial bleeds, traumatic brain injuries, seizure disorders, and medical intermediate patients requiring telemetry monitoring and higher-level nursing support.

Required Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; neuro stepdown experience essential
  • Previous travel nursing experience required (first-time travelers not accepted)
  • Active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification
  • Proficiency with EKG interpretation required (testing prior to start)
  • Must be comfortable titrating vasoactive drips (including LEVO)

Clinical Skills Required

Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management; management of central lines, PICC lines, and blood products; IV insulin titration; care of mechanically ventilated patients; BiPAP/CPAP management; chest tube care; tracheostomy care; feeding tube management; continuous bladder irrigation; hemodialysis pre/post care; heparin and thrombolytic protocols; and post-stroke/post-neurosurgery care.

Expectations

  • Strong teamwork and adherence to facility behavioral expectations required
  • Strict call-off policy adherence
  • No remote work allowed before or after booking
  • Scrubs: Any combination of navy blue and white

Orientation: 32 hours (8-hour computer class + 2 shifts on unit)
