ED Holding Support – Night Shift
Position Overview
Join the emergency department holding unit, a fast-paced area caring for adult patients awaiting inpatient beds. You'll manage a diverse patient population with medical and surgical diagnoses, including some PCU-level acuity. This is a float pool position requiring flexibility across the ED, medical-surgical, and other hospital areas.
Shift & Schedule
- Night: 4×12 hours (18:45–07:15)
- Contract: 13+ weeks through February 27, 2027
- Weekends: Every other weekend required
- RTO: Up to 7 days auto-approved (pre-approval required thereafter; no RTO during first week or holidays)
- Orientation: 12 hours
Required Experience & Credentials
- 2+ years nursing experience
- Active travel assignment history
- BLS and ACLS certifications
- EKG testing required prior to start
- MS/Tele expertise with dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote)
- Competency with: feeding tube care, renal failure patients, blood product administration, PICC/peripheral line management, phlebotomy, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, non-invasive airway management, ABG interpretation, isolation precautions, and rapid response team coordination
Preferred Skills
NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, hemodialysis pre/post management, port access, CVA/neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma, wound care/wound vacs
Patient Ratios & Environment
- Interdisciplinary support: respiratory, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response
Requirements
- Scrubs: Navy
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Must be prepared for disaster/mass casualty assignments as needed
