Medical/Surgical RN — Night Shift | Wilmington, NC
Shift: Nights, 3×12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15) | 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
Contract: 13–26 weeks | Start: October 2026
Scrubs: Navy (self-provided)
Unit Overview
This general Med/Surg unit cares for adult and geriatric patients across a busy inpatient census. Acuity is appropriate for experienced Med/Surg nurses — no PCU-level patients. The unit is supported by IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response, pharmacy, physical therapy, and additional interdisciplinary resources.
Clinical Scope includes:
- Heparin drips
- Wound VAC dressing changes
- High-flow oxygen management
- Short-term, limited BiPAP support (no additional training required)
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience
- BLS required; CPI preferred
- EKG/dysrhythmia competency testing required prior to start
- Charge nurse experience preferred — charge role is prioritized for night travelers
- NC or compact RN license (pending acceptable at submission)
Schedule & Expectations:
- Every other weekend required
- Must be available for major holidays (minimum 2 of 3)
- Call required if placed on a pre-scheduled on-call shift
- Float to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations
- Travelers are assigned to an Inclement Weather/Storm Team and may be required to work during declared emergencies or disasters
- Mandatory monthly unit team meetings; night shift staff attend an additional Friday morning session
- Orientation: 24 hours
RTO: Up to 7 days pre-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO during the first week; no additional RTO requests after contract signing.
