Surgical Short Stay – Registered Nurse | Night Shift | Wilmington, NC
Shift: Nights, 3x12-Hour (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Unit Overview
This Surgical Short Stay unit cares for adult surgical patients across a wide range of service lines. Most patients are admitted directly from PACU with stays under 24 hours, though the unit also manages pre-op patients and inpatient surgical admissions as needed. The clinical environment is fast-paced and requires confident, independent nursing practice.
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
Surgical conditions span multiple specialties, including colorectal, endoscopic, general, gynecologic, maxillofacial, neurologic, orthopedic, plastic, urologic, and vascular. Nurses are expected to be skilled in wound vac management, CBI, PCA, surgical drain care, IV insulin protocols, telemetry monitoring, and dysrhythmia interpretation.
Scheduling & Float Requirements
- Float may be required to inpatient surgery floors, inpatient holding areas, or medical floors
- Every other weekend required (12 weekend night shifts — Friday, Saturday, or Sunday — per contract)
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience
- Short stay experience required
- ACLS and BLS required
- First-time travelers welcome
- Charge experience preferred
- NC or Compact RN license required (pending accepted at submission)
Additional Details
- Up to 7 days RTO (holidays excluded); must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- COVID-19 vaccine not required
- Floating within the facility required; candidates must be open to this per job description
