Trauma Stepdown / IMC-PCU — Registered Nurse
Night Shift | 4×12 Hours (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Charleston, WV | 13-Week Contract
This mixed-acuity trauma stepdown unit provides nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with multi-system traumatic injuries and complex surgical needs. The unit operates across floor-level med/surg telemetry and an intermediate care stepdown component. Travelers are not required to care for pediatric patients.
Clinical Scope
- Multi-system trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and orthopedic trauma
- Stepdown-level critical drips: amiodarone, cardizem, precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin, and nitro
- Epidural analgesia for multiple rib fractures, arterial lines, chest tubes, wound vacs, tracheostomy care, PEG/feeding tubes
- Telemetry monitoring, ventilator management, and conscious sedation
Schedule & Contract
- 4×12 nights; every other weekend required
- Manager may call traveler off once per two-week pay period if census requires
- 36- or 48-hour contract options; 36 hours guaranteed
- Orientation held every other Thursday
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years RN experience; 1 year in specialty (PCU, IMC, Trauma, or SDU)
- First-time travelers accepted with ICU or trauma background
- WV or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted for submission)
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA), CPI, Fit Test required; TNCC preferred
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID vaccine not required
- Candidate's permanent address must be 100+ miles from the facility (75–99 miles considered case by case)
Scrub Color: Royal Blue / White (RN)
Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, phlebotomy, social services, and unit secretaries.
