Cardiac/Telemetry Stepdown RN
Unit Overview
The facility's Cardiac/Telemetry Stepdown Unit provides care for acute cardiac and cardiopulmonary patients. You'll manage patients post-catheterization, post-PCI, post-operative lung surgeries, AMI cases, and those requiring pacemaker or chest tube management. Patients with respiratory failure and those transitioning from critical care are common admissions.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour days: 7 AM – 7 PM or 7 PM – 7 AM
- Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday/Sunday)
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Holidays worked within facility rotation schedule
Clinical Requirements
- BLS and ACLS required
- Must be competent titrating cardiac drips: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Heparin, Integrelin, Ativan, Lasix, and Nitro (up to 50 mcg)
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
Unit Resources
- Charge nurse available 24/7 (day shift does not carry patients; night shift does)
- CNAs on unit (typically 3 on days, 2 on nights)
- Respiratory therapy manages CPAP and BiPap
- Support systems in place; float pool typically includes MedSurg/Tele units
What We're Looking For
Strong cardiac nursing experience and comfort with drip titration are essential. No artificial nails.
