General Surgery Unit – Telemetry RN

Position Overview

The facility seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for its general surgery unit. This is a 13-week contract position working nights (7:00 PM–7:00 AM) with 36 guaranteed hours per week.

About the Unit

You'll join a busy post-operative and general surgery team managing diverse patient populations. The unit specializes in urology and bowel cases, with a wide range of surgical procedures including cholecystectomies, bowel resections, nephrectomies, hernia repairs, hysterectomies, mastectomies, and plastics. You'll care for 6–7 patients per shift and work closely with the charge nurse, unit secretaries, and CNAs in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Manage telemetry-monitored patients post-operatively
  • Administer TPN, heparin drips, and IV antibiotics
  • Care for PEG tubes, NG tubes, wound vacs, and multiple drain types (JP, biliary, nephrostomy)
  • Manage colostomies, urostomies, and urinary catheters with continuous bladder irrigation
  • Use PCA pumps and other advanced IV delivery systems

Requirements

  • Current RN license
  • BLS and Telemetry certifications required
  • Strong telemetry competency
  • Demonstrated experience with urology and bowel nursing
  • Ability to manage 6–7 patients independently

Schedule & Dress Code

  • Night shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
  • 6 weekend shifts per 6-week rotation
  • Navy blue pants; navy blue or white scrub top
  • No sweaters, hoodies, or coats
