PCU / Stepdown
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Registered Nurse
Greensboro, NC | Days | 16-Week Contract
This PCU position is a great fit for nurses with strong cardiac telemetry backgrounds who thrive in a fast-paced, medically complex environment. All beds are telemetry-monitored, with centralized cardiac monitoring surveillance supporting the unit.
Schedule
- 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Weekend and holiday rotation
- No on-call requirements
- Float to additional campuses may be required as needed
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
The unit primarily serves adult patients with stroke, renal disorders, sepsis, endocrine, gastrointestinal, and hematological conditions — including higher-acuity patients who remain on the unit rather than transferring to med-surg when downgraded.
Clinical skills utilized include:
- Cardiac telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Titration of cardiac, vasoactive, and insulin drips
- Peripheral and PICC line care and management
- BiPAP/CPAP and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) management
- Blood product administration, IV insulin protocols, heparin protocols
- Tracheostomy care, chest tube management, wound care/wound vac
- Non-invasive airway management
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience; first-time travelers welcome
- Active RN license in hand at time of submission
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- PCU-level patient ratio experience required
- EKG competency exam required (2 attempts allowed)
- No candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility
- COVID-19 and flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
Orientation: Approximately 36 hours; non-billable modules average 2–4 hours and are completed during orientation.
