Med-Surg / Post-Op RN — Travel Contract | West Des Moines, IA
Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Monday–Friday | 3×12-hour shifts (36 hrs/week)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks | Start Date: October 12, 2026
About the Unit
This med-surg/post-op unit cares for surgical and spine patients requiring close monitoring and skilled nursing intervention. The unit manages heparin drip administration and a range of post-operative needs across a general medical-surgical and spine care population.
Float Requirement: Travelers must be available to float across multiple campuses within the health system.
Holiday: Travelers are expected to work 1–2 of the 3 upcoming Winter holidays unless the unit is closed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 24 months of med-surg/medical-surgical experience in a hospital setting
- Post-operative surgical experience required
- Spine care experience required
- Strong heparin experience required
- Minimum 3 months of travel nursing experience within the past 12 months (no first-time travelers)
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
- AHA or ARC BLS certification (active, required)
Preferred / Additional Requirements
- Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, or director within the past 24 months
- Valid driver's license

- Scrubs: Navy blue, solids
- Weekend rotation: Every third weekend
- Holiday rotation required
