PCU / Stepdown
Intermediate Care (IMC) — Travel RN | Arlington, VA
Night Shift | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 3x12s | 13-Week Contract
This intermediate care unit provides stepped-up care for adult and geriatric patients with complex pulmonary, cardiac, and surgical/trauma needs. The patient population includes those requiring advanced airway management — ventilators, tracheostomies, high-flow nasal cannula, and BiPAP — as well as patients with CHF, MI, unstable angina, dysrhythmias, pericardial disease, cardiac drug toxicity, pre/post cardiac catheterization, and pacemaker/ICD conditions. The unit also covers med/surg overflow.
Schedule & Logistics
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
- 6 weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) per 6-week period
- Scrub color: Navy blue
- Smoke/nicotine-free facility
Clinical Skills Required
- Ventilator management (required)
- Tracheostomy care, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP
- Cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia management
- Cardiac drip management and titration; heparin protocols
- Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care
- Pre/post cardiac cath care
- Use of rapid response teams
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown experience
- Cardiac telemetry background within the past year
- Active Virginia RN license or Compact license — must be in hand at time of submission (pending licenses will not be accepted)
- BLS and ACLS required
- Charge RN experience preferred; willingness to take charge required
- First-time travelers welcome
Vaccines
- COVID-19: Required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Flu vaccine: Required October 1 – March 31 (medical exemptions only)
