Medical-Surgical Telemetry / PCU Travel Nurse
Potsdam, NY | 13-Week Contract | Day Shift
This telemetry/step-down unit cares for a diverse adult population — adolescents through geriatrics — with diagnoses spanning cardiac, respiratory, infectious disease, endocrine disorders, CVA, and pre/post-operative conditions. The unit operates within a certified stroke program, making NIHSS competency essential.
Schedule & Structure
- 4x12-hour day shifts, 07:00–19:00
- Every other weekend required
- Float required to sister medical-surgical and observation units
Clinical Scope
Candidates should be comfortable with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, heparin and IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, PICC and port management, tracheostomy care, chest tube management, wound care/wound vac, PCA, and seizure and substance withdrawal protocols.
PCU/step-down experience is preferred; experienced med-surg/tele candidates will also be considered.
Required Certifications
- ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience (first-time travelers accepted)
- Active New York RN license required at time of submission
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility
- Electronic charting proficiency is required
- Up to 10 days pre-approved time off considered
Orientation: 16 hours
Interdisciplinary Support: Physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, phlebotomy, and unit secretarial support are all available on unit.
