Medical/Surgical Telemetry RN — Travel Contract

Batavia, NY | Days 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | 13-Week Contract

This busy Med/Surg Telemetry unit serves a diverse surgical and medical patient population ranging from adolescents to geriatrics. The unit functions as the primary destination for post-operative patients, including total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder) and general surgery cases such as appendectomies, exploratory laparotomies, and hernia repairs. Medical patients requiring telemetry monitoring are also admitted here, as well as patients with small bowel obstructions requiring suction.

Shift & Scheduling

  • Day shift: 3×12-hour shifts (07:00–19:00)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, or approximately 4 weekend shifts per month
  • Float: Yes, to other Med/Surg units within the facility

Care Model

The unit operates a team-based care delivery model: 1 RN, 1 LPN, and 1 PCT per patient group. Modified team configurations are used when full teams are unavailable.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS, BLS, NIHSS

Clinical Skills Expected

Candidates should be proficient in telemetry monitoring, port access, central line and PICC line management, blood product administration, wound care/wound VAC, continuous bladder irrigation, tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP management, IV insulin and heparin protocols, and surgical drain management, among others.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience
  • Charge experience preferred
  • Electronic health record proficiency required
  • Active New York RN license required prior to submission
  • Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility
  • First-time travelers accepted
