Pediatric Emergency Department RN — San Diego, CA

13-Week Contract | Start Date: October 12, 2026

This is a high-volume, fast-paced Pediatric Emergency Department serving patients from premature newborns through age 18. The unit manages a broad range of presentations including behavioral health, respiratory illness, trauma, and acute medical conditions, with an average of approximately 275 patients per day and significant seasonal volume fluctuations.

Shift Details

  • 3x12-hour variable shifts (days and nights); 7 different shift patterns available
  • Scheduling is consistent — travelers will not rotate between days and nights within a short period
  • Block scheduling accommodated upon request
  • Must be available for weekends as scheduled
  • Must work 2 of 3 holidays, including holiday eves
  • Maximum 6 days RTO for the contract

Required Qualifications

  • Current California RN license (pending license accepted with confirmed ETA)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in a dedicated/segmented Pediatric ED or Children's hospital
  • BLS and PALS (required)

  • IV insertion and maintenance across all pediatric age groups, including neonates
  • Straight urinary catheterization across all age groups (neonate through adolescent)
  • Conscious sedation experience

Preferred Certifications

  • ENPC, CPEN, CEN, TCRN, or de-escalation training

Additional Requirements

  • Fluenza vaccination required; no exemptions
  • Supervisor or manager reference required
  • Local candidates (within 50 miles) not accepted
  • Computerized charting experience required
  • Scrub color: any color scrub top and bottom

Orientation: Approximately 60 hours on-site; up to 10 hours of pre-start modules may be required.
