Surgical Nursing – Night Shift

Position Overview

The facility seeks an experienced surgical nurse for its primary surgical unit. You'll care for a diverse patient population ranging from adolescents to geriatrics, managing post-operative and acute surgical cases on the night shift.

Shift & Contract Details

• Schedule: Night 4x12-hour (19:00–07:00)
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 12, 2026
• Contract Options: 36 or 48 hours available; discuss during interview
• Location Requirement: 60-mile radius
• Weekend Coverage: 6 shifts per contract expected; some holiday coverage required

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years surgical nursing experience
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications
• IV start capability
• Able to float to other units when needed

Clinical Scope

• Blood product administration
• IV insulin protocols
• Surgical drain management
• Central line and PICC line care
• Chest tube management
• Telemetry monitoring
• Wound care and wound vac management
• Non-invasive airway support (BiPAP/CPAP)

Unit Support

Interdisciplinary team includes IV therapy, respiratory services, physical therapy, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and social services.

Scheduling Notes

• Self-scheduling model
• Floating required if another unit is short-staffed
• Minimize requests for time off, especially during the first two weeks
• All RTO must be pre-approved before assignment begins
• Lab work and drug screening required within 24 hours of signing
