Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Position Overview

The facility seeks a Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), a 13-week contract running 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM nights.

About the Role

You'll deliver nursing care to moderate-acuity patients who require closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but do not yet need ICU-level care. This includes patients transitioning from intensive care, those at risk of clinical deterioration, and those requiring cardiac telemetry and vital sign monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously; assess and respond to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to develop and adjust the plan of care
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as clinically needed
• Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment plan, and recovery expectations
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients per shift)
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (state or compact license)
• Minimum 1 year of PCU or step-down nursing experience
• BLS and ACLS certification
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
• ADN or BSN

Preferred Qualifications

• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
• BSN preferred
