Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Location: Louisville, KY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Schedule: Every other weekend

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

About the Role

The facility's Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is seeking an experienced RN to provide nursing care to moderate-acuity patients. You'll work with patients transitioning from ICU or those at risk of clinical deterioration—managing cardiac monitoring, vital sign changes, and IV medication administration while maintaining close observation.

Your Responsibilities

• Provide continuous cardiac rhythm and vital sign monitoring; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Assess and monitor patients recovering from acute illness or ICU-level care
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team on the plan of care
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment, and recovery
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EMR
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients per shift)
• Ensure compliance with infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Mentor and support licensed and non-licensed staff

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• Minimum 2 years acute care or PCU/step-down experience
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• ADN or BSN
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN degree
• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
