Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
Position Overview
The facility is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit. You'll provide nursing care to patients requiring closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but not ICU-level care—including those transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, identifying and responding to changes in patient condition
- Assess, manage, and educate patients and families on their condition, treatment plan, and recovery
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team on plan of care
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient response in the electronic health record
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) per facility acuity guidelines
- Implement infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Mentor and preceptor staff; participate in quality and safety improvements
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Minimum 2 years acute care RN experience, with 1+ years in PCU or step-down setting
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems
Schedule
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend per unit need
- 13-week contract
- Start date: October 4, 2026
