Critical Care Nurse – ICU

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (36 hours/week)

Schedule: Every other weekend; some holidays

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: October 5, 2026

About the Role

The facility's ICU is seeking a Critical Care Nurse to provide direct, comprehensive care to high-acuity patients requiring intensive monitoring and support. You'll manage complex cases including post-operative patients, those on mechanical ventilation, and patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring and titratable medications.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and rapidly respond to changes in patient condition
• Manage advanced life support equipment: ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, and hemodynamic monitors
• Administer vasoactive and sedation drips per physician orders
• Collaborate with intensivists and the interdisciplinary care team on plan of care
• Perform rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families on condition and treatment plan
• Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR
• Ensure infection control and safety protocols for high-acuity care

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 1+ year of ICU/critical care experience
• Demonstrated experience with ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, and titratable drips
• 2+ years' recent experience in critical care and travel nursing background required
