Medical-Surgical Nurse – 13-Week Contract

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (36 hours/week)

Schedule: Every other weekend; some holidays

Start Date: October 5, 2026

About the Role

The facility seeks an experienced Medical-Surgical Nurse to join its inpatient unit. You'll provide comprehensive care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions, from chronic disease management to acute post-operative recovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound assessment and pain management
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
• Coordinate care for patients with conditions including diabetes, cardiac, and respiratory diagnoses
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
• Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning and discharge
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols

Requirements

• Active RN license in state of practice (or compact license)
• 2+ years recent Med-Surg experience and travel experience required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN certification preferred
• Ability to manage diverse patient caseloads with varying acuity levels

Contract Details

This is a 13-week travel assignment extending through the beginning of the year. Candidates must be available for the full contract duration.
