Med/Surg RN — Night Shift | Nashville, TN
13-Week Contract | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
This med/surg unit manages a diverse patient population with moderate-to-high acuity, including neurological, post-operative, and medically complex cases. The unit provides daily secretary support and PRN tech coverage.
Clinical Scope
- Patient populations include strokes, seizures, and post-op cases such as amputations, ostomy, chest tube placements, oral surgeries, and wound vacs
- Wound care, tracheostomy, ostomy, drain, and chest tube management required
- Peritoneal dialysis and PCA pump familiarity needed; Heparin is the only continuous drip
- HAI prevention, CVC and Foley monitoring, and fall prevention protocols in place
- Bedside shift report and safety checks every 1–2 hours expected
- 100% medication scanning required, including controlled substances
Schedule & Float
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 36 guaranteed hours per week
- 4 weekend shifts per 4-week scheduling block
- Float policy: will float over core staff
Requirements
- Active RN license
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Strong skills in patient assessment, wound care, tracheostomy, ostomy, and drain management
Dress Code
Navy, blue, white, black, gray, or ceil blue scrubs

This is a collaborative, energetic unit with experienced charge nurses and supportive leadership. Travel nurses are integrated as core staff and held to the same standards of accountability and recognition.
