Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) RN — Des Moines, IA

4x10 Days | 26-Week Contract

Schedule & Contract

  • Shift: 6:30 AM–5:00 PM, Monday–Friday, 4x10s with rotating day off
  • On call: Up to two overnight shifts per week; weekend call one weekend per month (Friday end of shift through Monday 6:30 AM)
  • Holiday rotation required
  • Contract length: 26 weeks

Unit Overview

This is a high-volume OR environment supporting a broad range of surgical service lines, including cardiac/peripheral vascular, neuro, ortho trauma, robotics, GYN, urology, general surgery, pediatrics, transplants, and limited ENT and plastics. The suite runs 12–14 rooms routinely, with capacity reserved for trauma cases. Average daily caseload is 35–50 cases with an expected turnover of under 20 minutes. The facility utilizes robotic-assisted surgery and advanced neuro navigation technology.

Both scrubbing and circulating are expected. Travelers will be required to float across multiple campuses.

Orientation Structure

  • Weeks 1–2/3: General OR rooms — circulating fundamentals
  • Weeks 2–4: Vascular circulating and scrubbing (vascular is included in cardiac call)
  • Following weeks: Cardiac circulating, shadow call, then scrubbing progression
  • General department call covers the first six weeks prior to cardiac call readiness

Requirements

  • Minimum 24 months of current OR/CVOR experience
  • Strong proficiency in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic procedures required
  • Open-heart scrub experience required
  • General surgery circulating experience required
  • Trauma Level II experience required; Level I preferred
  • Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 15 months
  • Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license required
  • BLS (AHA) required
  • Scrubs provided
