Stepdown/Telemetry – RN
Location: Birmingham, AL
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (nights)
Schedule: 36 hours per week; every other weekend and select holidays
Contract: 13 weeks (must extend through early January)
About the Role
Join the stepdown unit at the facility, where you'll care for moderate-acuity patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration. This role bridges the gap between intensive and general medical-surgical nursing, requiring vigilance, clinical judgment, and strong communication with the interdisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide continuous cardiac monitoring and vital sign assessment; identify and respond promptly to rhythm changes and clinical decline
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) with close attention to safety and comfort
- Collaborate with physicians and intensivists on patient care plans
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Educate patients and families on their condition and recovery plan
- Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to infection control and fall prevention protocols
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years' recent experience in stepdown/telemetry nursing
- Proven travel nursing experience
- Demonstrated ability in telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
Preferred
- BSN degree
- PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
