Medical-Surgical Nurse – 3 West

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 18 weeks

Start Date: October 5, 2026

About the Role

The facility is seeking an experienced RN for its medical-surgical unit. You'll provide comprehensive care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions, including those recovering from surgery and managing chronic diagnoses such as diabetes, cardiac, and respiratory conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition, escalating care as needed
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound care and pain management
• Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning and discharge
• Educate patients and families on conditions, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Manage a typical patient load of 4–6 patients per shift

Requirements

• Active RN license in the state of practice (or compact license as applicable)
• 1+ years of medical-surgical nursing experience required
• 2+ years total nursing experience with travel experience
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN (Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse) preferred
• Ability to manage diverse patient caseloads with varying diagnoses and acuity levels
