Med/Surg RN & LPN — Night Shift | Oakland, MD
This acute care Med/Surg unit manages a broad patient population including chest pain, CHF, ia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, orthopedic cases, detox, post-operative surgical patients, and pediatric cases. The unit does not care for laboring mothers or patients requiring titrated cardiac or insulin drips.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights)
- Holiday rotation with permanent staff
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Extra shifts may be available; manager is open to block scheduling preferences
Contract Details
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
- Start date: September 14, 2026
Required Certifications & Licensure
- BLS (AHA)
- NIHSS (required for all RNs and LPNs)
- ACLS and PALS recommended but not required
- Valid driver's license required at submission
Clinical Notes
- RNs are not required to titrate drips or read telemetry strips; ICU monitors and documents, then faxes results to the unit nurse
- Nurse aides on unit each shift
- Respiratory therapy manages CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen support
- Floating to other units as a tasker or extra set of hands is required
Orientation
- 3–5 days of unit-based training including policy review, pharmacy, and lab orientation
Dress Code
- Any scrub color except camouflage or orange
