Cytotechnologist | Anatomic Pathology | Baltimore, MD

This travel Cytotechnologist position supports Anatomic Pathology/Laboratory Services across two affiliated hospital locations in the Baltimore area. The role is a Monday–Friday day shift (7:30 AM–4:00 PM or 8:00 AM–4:30 PM) over a 14-week contract.

Position Overview

  • Split schedule: 2 days per week at one location, 3 days per week at a second affiliated location
  • Daily volume: approximately 7–15 specimens
  • At one location: on-site adequacy checks for FNA, EBUS, and ION procedures performed in the OR
  • At the second location: FNA procedure assistance and slide screening throughout the hospital

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of Cytotechnologist experience
  • Inpatient laboratory experience required
  • Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA): procedure assistance, specimen collection, smear preparation, preliminary diagnosis, and staining
  • On-site adequacy assessment experience required
  • Non-gynecological cytology: ascitic fluid, esophageal, gastric, spinal, and respiratory specimens
  • Bronchial and urine specimen experience required
  • SurePath and ThinPrep proficiency required
  • GMS, iron, and PAP staining experience required
  • Quality control/quality assurance and specimen labeling/identification experience required

Certifications & Licensure

  • ASCP-CT required
  • No Maryland state cytotechnology licensure specified; valid Maryland or Compact license required at submission

Scheduling & Time Off

  • One pre-approved time-off request permitted per contract
  • Holidays and hard-to-fill days (e.g., Easter, Mother's Day) are restricted
  • No block scheduling available

Scrubs: Provided at one location; no specific color requirement at the other.

Vaccines: Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required.
