NICU – Surgical Focus

Start Date: November 9, 2026

Contract Duration: 13 or 18 weeks

Shift: 3x12-hour; variable day/night rotation or straight nights (07:00–19:00 or 19:00–07:00)

About the Role

Join a high-acuity surgical NICU caring for neonates from 22 weeks gestation through infancy. You'll manage complex post-operative patients, including those recovering from gastroschisis, omphaloceles, myelomeningoceles, and fresh tracheostomies. Common diagnoses include HIE/cooling, CDH, NEC, and respiratory distress/failure.

Clinical Scope

• Ventilator management (oscillator, conventional, CPAP, specialty gases)
• Central line placement and maintenance (PICC lines, Broviacs, UAC/UVC, PAL lines)
• Tracheostomy and G-tube care, including line changes with multiple drips
• Pre- and post-operative care for surgical neonates
• Video EEG and NIRS monitoring

Staffing & Schedule

• Patient ratios: 1–2 patients
• Full weekend flexibility required; no specific weekend commitment
• Must work 2 of 3 holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) — no holiday RTO
• Maximum 6 days RTO for the contract
• 36-hour orientation
• Schedule published monthly; shifts may rotate between day and night

Requirements

• License: California RN license (pending acceptable with ETA)
• Experience: 2 years NICU Level 4, OR strong Level 3 RN with documented surgical NICU experience
• Certifications: BLS, Advanced NRP; PALS preferred
• Skills: Comfortable with oscillators, conventional ventilators, CPAP, line care, trach/ostomy management, pre/post-op care
• Flexibility: Willing to float to Pediatric ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, and satellite NICU locations (mileage reimbursed)
• Transportation: Own vehicle required

First-time travelers with strong Level 4 experience are welcome.
