Registered Nurse
Observation Unit RN – Toledo, OH | Days | 13-Week Contract
This fast-paced Observation unit operates as a mixed PCU, Med/Surg Tele, and Med/Surg environment, managing adult and geriatric patients with a length-of-stay goal of 18–24 hours. The majority of patients are co-managed with EDOBS providers, with coverage available around the clock.
Shift: Days, 3×12-hour shifts (06:45–19:15)

Patient Population & Diagnoses
Chest pain, atrial fibrillation, TIA, CHF, COPD/asthma, seizure, syncope, GI bleed/anemia, AKI, UTI/pyelonephritis, pancreatitis, cellulitis, carbon monoxide poisoning, post-outpatient surgery complications, and more.
Required Certifications
- ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience in a similar setting
- Charge nurse experience required
- Proficiency with intermediate medication drips (heparin, nitroglycerin, cardizem, insulin)
- Telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management
- Heparin protocols, isolation precautions/PPE, cardiac drip management
Scheduling Details
- Every other weekend required
- No block scheduling
- RTO greater than 7 days requires manager approval
- No travelers within a 50-mile radius accepted
- Pending Ohio license acceptable; Michigan license must be active at submission
Float Expectations
Travelers are expected to float within the service line and across multiple regional facilities as needed. Float units include Neuro/Stroke, Cardiac, Orthopedic, Oncology, General Surgery, Uro/Vascular, and Observation.
First-time travelers welcome. Prior experience in Observation medicine is preferred. Charting system experience is required.
