Position Overview
The facility is seeking a Mental Health Counselor to join its psychiatric team. This is a 13-week contract position with temp-to-perm potential for local candidates.
Schedule & Hours
- Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (8-hour days)
- Hours: 32 hours per week
- Rotation:
- Week 1: Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
- Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
- Guaranteed Hours: 72 hours biweekly (excludes on-call time)
- No float required
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers while monitoring safety and valuables
- Conduct one-on-one client interactions and participate in family conferences
- Contribute to crisis prevention planning, discharge planning, and care coordination
- Provide peer-to-peer support and psycho-education (if CPS-certified)
- Act as a liaison between inpatient units, case managers, psychiatrists, therapists, and families
- Lead or co-lead supportive psycho-educational groups
- Participate in treatment team meetings and help develop individualized care plans
- Document and report patient symptoms, reactions, and safety changes to nursing staff
- Monitor the patient environment and promote a positive therapeutic milieu
- Perform related duties including meal preparation and housekeeping as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field
- BLS certification required
- Professional demeanor with strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to adapt to workplace changes and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
