Operating Room Nurse

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Operating Room Nurse to join the surgical team on a 13-week contract. You'll work four 10-hour day shifts per week (6:30 am – 5:00 pm) with one night per week on-call rotation.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technicians to ensure optimal patient care during procedures
• Maintain sterile fields and oversee proper handling, sterilization, and preparation of instruments and supplies
• Verify patient identity, consent forms, and surgical site before transfer to the operating room
• Apply aseptic principles throughout all surgical cases
• Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments per protocol
• Identify, label, and handle specimens and cultures according to established procedures
• Assess and manage patient pain levels, documenting responses and notifying physicians as needed
• Administer medications and IV therapy safely in accordance with physician orders
• Provide thorough, accurate documentation of all interventions and patient responses
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care
• Identify potential safety risks and opportunities to reduce errors
• Support patient/family education and discharge planning as appropriate

Required Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts RN license
• Active BLS card; AHA ACLS required within 60 days of hire
• Operating room nursing experience; CNOR certification strongly preferred
• Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Professional, courteous demeanor with strong work ethic
