Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit – RN
About the Role
Join a busy cardiovascular progressive care unit managing post-operative cardiac and vascular surgery patients, as well as overflow medical cardiology cases. You'll provide skilled stepdown care to patients recovering from open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic procedures (lobectomy, thoracotomy), AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, and esophagogastrectomy. The unit also treats medical cardiology patients with heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and cardiac arrhythmias.
What You'll Do
- Manage epidural catheters and chest tubes
- Administer and titrate cardiac drips (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
- Monitor telemetry and hemodynamics on post-operative and critical cardiac patients
- Oversee tube feedings and IV glucommander management
- Provide care to 5 patients per shift
Requirements
- Current RN license
- ACLS and BLS certification
- Stepdown and telemetry experience (required)
- Prior cardiovascular/vascular surgery population experience preferred
- CVICU experience a plus
The Assignment
- Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week; minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week cycle
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Dress Code: All navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
- Floating: May float to other stepdown or medical-surgical units, or ER inpatient holding as needed
