ICU Float Pool Nurse – Night Shift

Position Overview

Join the ICU float pool as a night shift nurse (19:00–07:30) in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. You will float between the ICU and supporting units (med/surg, telemetry, PCU, and overflow) based on census and patient needs. This is a 20-week contract with flexible scheduling.

Shift & Schedule

  • Shift: Night 4x12-hour (19:00–07:30)
  • Weekend Coverage: Required—minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period
  • Floating: Yes, this is a float position. No scheduling requests can be accommodated.
  • Time Off: Maximum 2 weeks total per contract; no time off during the first 2 weeks of assignment.

Required Qualifications

  • Active California RN license (must be current at time of submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Pulmonary artery line (Swan Ganz) experience is a hard requirement. This skill will be assessed during the phone interview and via a clinical skills checklist.
  • First-time travelers welcome if you have experience in a 400+ bed facility.

Clinical Focus

You'll care for adult and geriatric patients across multiple ICU specialties:

  • Neuro ICU patients
  • Respiratory failure and ventilator-dependent patients
  • Hemodynamic instability and post-cardiac events
  • Acute GI bleeds, genitourinary conditions, and shock
  • Transplant patients (liver, kidney, pancreas, heart/lung preferred)

Core Skills & Responsibilities

  • Arterial line and central line management
  • Swan Ganz monitoring and hemodynamic interpretation
  • Ventilator and sedation management
  • 12-lead EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management
  • Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
  • ABG interpretation and vasoactive drip titration
  • EVD and CRRT experience preferred

Other Requirements

  • Flu vaccination required by designated start dates (9/28, 10/12, or 10/26)
  • EKG exam on first day of orientation—must pass to proceed
  • Two supervisor-level references from employment within the past 12 months required at submission
  • No pending or temporary licenses accepted
