Cardiovascular ICU — Night Shift
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced ICU nurse for a 26-week night assignment (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 3x12-hour shifts) in the cardiovascular intensive care unit. This role is ideal for nurses with strong cardiac experience who are ready to deliver high-level care to a complex patient population.
Unit Details
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Average Census: 24 patients
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with every-other-weekend coverage required
- No on-call requirement
- Scrubs: Royal Blue
Required Experience & Certifications
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience
- Cardiovascular experience with open heart and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) care
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Advanced EKG interpretation skills (Relias EKG exam required prior to start; onsite competency assessment mandatory)
- In-person VIP, MAB, or CPI certifications required
- Active California license
- First-time travelers welcome
Core Competencies
You'll manage post-cardiac surgery patients, interpret dysrhythmias and ABGs, maintain arterial and central lines, administer blood products, titrate vasoactive drips, care for ventilated patients, and perform IV insulin protocols.
Pre-Start Requirements
- Advanced EKG exam (80% passing score; two attempts permitted)
- Onsite EKG competency assessment
- Smoke/nicotine-free facility; arrive free of tobacco odor
- No time off approved during first two weeks of assignment
